Food Spotlight: Hibachi Buffet

front of Hibachi Buffet building

Hibachi Buffet just opened in the last year in Merritt Island, Florida, and it is constantly filled with people. I love a good Asian buffet, and this one is probably the best that I've been to on a budget. Everything I have tried there has been delicious, and the quality of all of the food, especially the sushi, is incredible for the price. The lunch buffet, which seems to have most of the same dishes as the dinner buffet minus a few options, is only $13, not including drinks. (But when I'm at a buffet, the last thing I want to do is fill up on soda.) The dinner buffet is $18. They also offer takeout options at various prices.

The buffet includes a range of Asian cuisines. Some of the options include sushi, hot dishes like general Tso's chicken and Chinese-style ribs, seafood like crab legs and mussels, soups, fruits, desserts, and the hibachi station.

The sushi selection is pretty great, with salmon and tuna sashimi and nigiris, various types of rolls from California to eel to rainbow rolls, and a few fried options. Around the corner from the sushi bar are also various side dishes such as kimchi, octopus salad, or (my favorite) seaweed salad. At the end of the sushi bar is the hibachi station where you can pick out raw meats for the chef to cook right there for you.

There are rows and rows of hot dishes. Some of my favorites are the teriyaki chicken skewers, coconut shrimp, bourbon chicken, and crab rangoons. If you have picky eaters, there is also plenty of fried chicken, fried shrimp, and some of the classic Chinese takeout dishes. For seafood lovers, they have excellent mussels and crawfish, and you can find butter to dip them in.

I have been several times since they've been open, and they have made some great changes for the better and seem to listen to customer feedback. The service has always been great with plenty of servers to refill your drinks and keep dishes stocked up. The restaurant is pretty and clean on the inside with tons of seating. I was shocked when I first ate there at how huge it was inside. Although it is always pretty busy, I have never had to wait for a table.

This has become my favorite restaurant in the area. I love buffets, but usually the quality and cleanliness seem to suffer. That is not the case here. This place is popular for a reason, and I hope they continue to thrive in the area. I feel like it filled a huge gap in the food selection on Merritt Island, and if you are ever in the area, I hope you check it out for yourself!
