Food Spotlight: Oh K-Dog Merritt Island

Oh K-Dog is a fairly new restaurant on Merritt Island, but the growing chain has been around for a few years in other locations. This was my first experience with Oh K-Dog, and it did not disappoint!

The interior was bigger than I expected with a clean and modern design. One TV plays K-Pop music videos while the other entices you to buy everything with tantalizing videos of their food.

Their menu is simple, offering twelve different types of dogs, five kinds of egg toast sandwiches, two types of tteokbokki, several flavors of mochi donuts, and a bunch of fun boba and slushy drinks.

Menu

For dogs you can choose between classic hot dogs, rice cakes, beef hot dogs, mozza dogs, or a few different combinations. You can get the regular coating or choose squid ink, potato, or sweet potato. We got the sweet potato mozza dog and classic hot dog. The mozza dog was loaded with sweet potatoes on the outside and filled with gooey mozzarella cheese. I couldn't finish the whole thing, but it was delicious. The regular hot dog was a perfect size. They had regular condiments like ketchup and mustard to add and also offered to top both dogs with sugar. We opted out of the sugar this time, but I think it might have been good on the mozza dog. The coating on both dogs was soft on the inside and delicious. The classic dog was only $3.99 and the sweet potato mozza dog was the most expensive at $6.49.

For egg toast options, they offer a classic sandwich, ham and cheese, bacon and cheese, teriyaki, and avocado. As a bacon lover, I definitely want to try the bacon and cheese next time I visit. The egg toasts range from $7-$9. The also offer spicy rice cakes (tteokbokki) and rose spicy rice cakes for $10.99 and $12.99 respectively. Tteokbokki in Korea was a bit spicy for me, but I absolutely love tteok (rice cakes). My next dog might have to be the rice cake one.

The mochi donuts are adorable, and they offer classic flavors like chocolate and vanilla but also flavors like matcha, cookie dough, and churro. This is another must try for my next visit.

brown sugar milk tea and mango collada slushy

To drink, there were tons of options, but we chose to get the brown sugar milk tea and mango collada slush. We chose not to add boba to either. The brown sugar milk tea was creamy but light and not too sweet. The mango collada slush was extremely refreshing (and once we got home it was excellent with rum). The drinks were larger than I expected. The last time I had a brown sugar milk tea was in Korea, where the typical drink size is more of medium drink. This felt like an extra large drink, which makes it well worth it for the money. The fancy drinks were around $4-$6, but you could also get water, tea, or coffee for under $3.

When you head in, you can order with a person at a register or at one of two screens. I will always choose a screen over having to talk to someone, and I love browsing through all of the options.

Overall, I think this is a great affordable but flavorful addition to Merritt Island, and I am excited to go back and taste more!
