Welcome to Aventurine Tastes and Travels! My name is Melanie Niarhos, and I am excited to bring you along on my journey.
Let me tell you a little about myself. I am a University of Central Florida graduate and a former theme park employee that has grown up in central Florida for the majority of my life. After college, I decided to drop everything and teach English in South Korea. I lived there for a year before moving back home unexpectedly. Now, after battling some debilitating health issues, I am ready to build my career and get back out into the world.
To me, a full life is one where you get to experience as much of the world as possible. I want to eat good food, visit beautiful places, learn about different people, and go on adventures. Whether I am exploring near home or venturing out abroad, I want to share my experiences here. Wherever we live and wherever we go, we should all seek to find the wonderful places around us. There is so much to discover and so much to do.
I also want to share the not-so-good stories. Life isn't a fairytale, and traveling doesn't solve all of our problems. It is important to see the world for what it is. We can enjoy the good without hiding the bad. Moving abroad has its difficulties, as does traveling solo. Cultural differences, bureaucracy, and just dealing with adulthood are important issues that I'll dive into through this platform. Moving abroad is not a vacation. It is important to respect the places you go, adapt to a different way of life, and remember that no place is perfect. I want to share ways to travel smart, taking off the rose-colored glasses to see how beautiful the world still is with all its flaws.
I'll be sharing travel tips, restaurant reviews, and much more as I grow this page. I hope you enjoy my stories and feel empowered to make some of your own.
